The Grade

This piece was originally worked with pen and india ink, then scanned and colored in photoshop. I basically sought out to portray the dark cloud that a bad grade can cast on you. For some reason I see the scarlet letter in this.

I see what you mean about the Scarlet Letter, and yet… there is something about the way the light shines through the cut-out F that looks like a ray of hope, as if the only way to escape is to fail.

Hmmm.. I agree with tanaudel. I saw that right away before I read the comment – the light shining through as something that lessened the impact and power of the F – casting some light on it or through it – making it transparent and a little devoid of its power. Nice illustration.
